Mosaic acquisition with the BatchAcquisition script

Creating a mosaic with the PixInsight StarAlignment tool requires a sufficient overlap between the different tiles that build up the mosaic. An overlap that is too small increases the  probability that the star matching routine of the alignment process fails. On the other hand, if the overlap is too big too many images are needed to create a sufficient coverage of the area of interest.  This dilemma shows how difficult it is to create a mosaic with several tiles.

In the following video I show how you can acquire the images of a mosaic using the BatchAcquisition script. The coordinates of the mosaic tiles can be determined with the MosaicPlanner script by Andres del Pozo.  The BatchAcquition script is able to slew to center coordinates of the mosaic parts with high precision by applying the differential correction algorithm automatically. The video shows the whole workflow

  • Configuration of mount, CCD, and filter wheel parameters
  • Uploading a csv file with the  center coordinates of the mosaic parts
  • Automatic slew and centering to the targets
  • Automatic acquisition of the mosaic target images
